surface_gas_transfer_velocity_at_schmidt_number_660_in_sea_water m s-1 [UVAA]
The gas transfer velocity ("piston velocity") of the air-sea gas exchange at the sea surface, normalised to a Schmidt number of 660 (CO2 in sea water at 20 degC), for example from a wind speed parameterisation such as Wanninkhof (2014). The transfer velocity of a gas with Schmidt number Sc is obtained by multiplying by (660/Sc)^0.5. The flux of a gas into the sea is the transfer velocity times the difference between the concentration at saturation and the concentration in the sea water. If sea ice is present, the quantity is the mean over the grid cell, with zero transfer through the ice-covered fraction.
