floating_ice_shelf_area_fraction

"Area fraction" is the fraction of a grid cell's horizontal area that has some characteristic of interest. It is evaluated as the area of interest divided by the grid cell area. It may be expressed as a fraction, a percentage, or any other dimensionless representation of a fraction. A "floating ice shelf", sometimes called a "floating ice sheet", indicates where an ice sheet extending from a land area flows over sea water.

    floating_ice_sheet_area_fraction

Long name: Floating Ice Sheet Area Fraction. Fraction of grid cell covered by ice sheet flowing over seawater (also called ice shelf). Note land_ice_area_fraction already exist, hence the suggestion to add grounded_ice_sheet_area_fraction and floating_ice_sheet_area_fraction: These could also use instead the existing name "area_fraction", with a coordinate variable or scalar coordinate variable of "area_type" and add new entries to the area_type table (http://cfconventions.org/Data/area-type-table/current/build/area-type-table.html). Alison suggested that this is discussed on list.

"X_area_fraction" means the fraction of horizontal area occupied by X. A "floating ice sheet", sometimes called an "ice shelf", indicates where the ice sheet is flowing over sea water.
